To connect to your ADSL connection using a PPPoE Dialer, you will need to configure your ADSL modem into "Bridged" mode. For more information on how to do this, please refer to your modem's user manual, or contact Westnet Support on 1300 786 068
If, at any point through the setup process, you begin to experience issues, please feel to contact Westnet Support on 1300 786 068

What is a PPPoE Dialer?

A PPPoE Dialer is a lot like the Dialer you would use to if you were connecting to a Dialup connection, however instead you are connecting to your broadband connection. A PPPoE Dialer allows you to control when you are connected to the internet, as well as being useful when Troubleshooting certain ADSL issues, including Dropout issues and Authentication issues (ie. For more information, and a full troubleshooting guide, please visit our Broadband ADSL Issues Page).

What do I need to be able to connect via a PPPoE Dialer?

Connecting to your broadband connection using a PPPoE Dialer is much the same as normally connect to the internet (ie. Configuring your modem to control your ADSL connection by itself). For full guide on how to prepare your ADSL modem for use, please visit our Broadband ADSL Modem Setup Page and Filter Setup Guide.

Simply, you will need the following:

  • Your computer connected to your modem via an Ethernet connection (RJ45 Connection).
  • Your modem connected to your phone line via a standard phone cable (RJ11/12 Connection).
  • The modem connected to the power via the supplied power pack.

How do I connect using my PPPoE Dialer?

To connect to your broadband connection using the PPPoE Dialer you have just created, please follow these steps:

  1. If you chose to have the PPPoE Dialer Setup place a shortcut of the connection onto your desktop, simply double click on that icon (See Fig. 1 on the Left) to bring up the dialer.

If you do not have this icon on your desktop, then alternatively, click "Start", hover your mouse over "Connect To" and, in the menu that appears, click the "Westnet (PPPoE)" option.

  2. In the window that appears, double check that the User name is correct and click "Connect".
  3. The Dialer will now attempt to connect (See Fig. 4). Once connected it will give you a tell you so in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. If the connection is experiencing any difficulties it will come up with an error message (See Fig. 5), if this occurs please contact Westnet Support on 1300 786 068
