The speed of your Broadband internet account depends on which plan you choose. Currently, Westnet has six speeds available for Broadband1 and Broadband2+:

Broadband1

  • 256kbps/64kbps;
  • 512kbps/128kbps;
  • 512kbps/512kbps;
  • 1.5Mbps/256kbps;
  • 8Mbps/384kbps (with speed ranging between 1.5Mbps/256kbps to 8Mbps/384kbps*); and

Broadband2+

  • 20Mbps/1Mbps (also known as ADSL2+ with speeds of up to 20Mbps/1Mbps*).

The first figure represents your download speed and the second figure represents your upload speed. The below table provides an example of how fast a file may be downloaded via Dialup and Broadband internet connections:

Speed Tests

To test the speed of your internet connection, visit the Westnet Download Vault. Once you are at this page, choose any file to download to your computer. After a few seconds, take note of the transfer rate displayed, and compare it to the table below to see if you are experiencing a slow download speed:

ADSL speed Expected transfer rate
256kbps 24 to 28kBps
512kbps 50 to 60kBps
1.5Mbps 150 to 180kBps
8Mbps 700 to 850kBps
20Mbps 1500 to 2500 kBps

If you believe you are experiencing slow download speeds, please contact Westnet Support on 1300 786 068 for further investigation.
