Access Control is a free security feature offered on all Westnet internet connections to help protect our members from online threats such as hackers, spam and virus infections. Access Control is designed to have no impact on normal online activities.
This feature is enabled by default. It can be disabled through the MyAccount service however Westnet strongly recommends that you leave it enabled unless you are experiencing problems specifically related to the service. If you are unsure, please contact our Technical Support Team on 1300 786 068 before disabling this security feature.
Technical Description
Access Control blocks ports that are not commonly used for regular internet usage but can be used for malicious purposes. Please visit the Default Ports Blocked by Westnet article for a list of the ports blocked by Access Control.
Enabling or Disabling the Service
To enable or disable Access Control on your account, please follow these steps:
- Log into the MyAccount service with your Westnet username and password
- In the Services section, click the Access Control link. You will be presented with a list of ports currently being blocked
- At the bottom of the page, select whether you would like to block (enable) or allow (disable) access to the above ports
- Click the Submit button
Please note: Once you have enabled or disabled Access Control, you will be disconnected from the internet.
