A FTP username and password is required to access the space that stores your website files. This information is sent once the setup of your hosting account has been completed.

FTP programs are widely available on the internet to download. Apart from a few, FTP programs are free to install and if you are a Westnet internet customer, you may download an FTP program from our Download Vault.

Windows-hosted Domains

The settings required to access a webspace on our Windows servers are as follows:

FTP Address: ftp.domainname.com.au
Remote directory: domainname.com.au
Username: as supplied
Password: as supplied

It is important to specify the Remote Directory when using a FTP to upload to the space. If this setting is not specified, you will not have access to the webspace where you have permission to upload.

You will require permission to change files in your web space (e.g. allowing write permissions to a file), which you can request by using the Request a Job page in the Hosting Control Panel.

Linux-hosted Domains

The settings needed to access a webspace on our Linux servers are as follows:

FTP Address: ftp.domainname.com.au
Username: as supplied
Password: as supplied

You will require permission to change a file in your web space, which you may do this yourself with most FTP programs.

Additional Information

FTP usernames are limited to one per domain. If however, you have grounds for additional users, please use the Request a Job page in the Hosting Control Panel.
