To maintain a high level of quality of service Westnet may block some emails you send. Including the following limits which are imposed upon our mail server:

  • Maximum of 60 Emails per minute.
  • 2000 recipients total per minute.
  • 1000 recipients total per email.
  • 10 Connections per minute.
  • 12MB hard limit on size (due to overheads).

To ensure that our services are available to all customers, our mail server will restrict the number of emails you can send at one time. The limits are quite difficult to reach, and as a result will affect very few customers.

Sending large emails can often cause havoc with your local email client, as the technology was not built to cope with today's Internet speeds or file sizes. As a rule, Westnet recommends not sending any emails which exceed 2 - 3Mb, however the hard limit imposed by our mail server is 12Mb. If you attempt to send an email which exceeds this size limit, our Webmail service will display an error message. Similarly emails bound for your account from another mail server will be 'bounced' by our mail server with a reply informing the sender that their email has exceeded the size limit.

For customers who have signed up for our Email Protection, any inbound emails which are suspected to contain a virus will also be blocked. By default you will receive an email informing you that the email was blocked, however you can disable this report.
