Webmail Assistant

Westnet's Webmail Assistant is an advanced user feature that provides a quick way to interact with Web Client using the keyboard to do the following tasks:

  • Create new appointments
  • Go to a specific date in your calendar
  • Create new contacts
  • Send a new mail message without changing the application you are currently using (for example, compose an email whist still in the Calendar tab).
  • This feature is only available using Webmail Plus

Webmail Plus

You can open the Westnet Webmail Assistant from any window or tab other than the Preferences tab. The keyboard shortcut to open Westnet Webmail Assistant is ` (back quote) or shift ~ (tilde) This key can be found below the Escape (Esc) key.

  • Shift ~ (tilde) does not work when using Safari or Mozilla Firefox on a Mac OS X. The back quote (`) does work.

The Webmail Assistant dialogue offers detailed help. Below are the general steps for using Westnet Webmail Assistant:

  1. From within the Webmail Client, use the shortcut key (either the back quote or shift tilde). The Westnet Webmail Assistant dialogue displays.
  2. Enter one of the following commands:


  • To create an appointment, type appointment or just "a". You can then enter a subject in quotes, "Subject" the time, a date and day of week, enter a Location in brackets, [Location] and any notes for the appointment in parenthesis, (Notes). Click OK.
    Note: If you want more advanced appointment features, click More details to go to the Calendar Appointment page.


  • To go to a specific date in your calendar, type calendar or just "ca" and the date, or the day of the week. Click OK.
    Note: After the date you can enter the Calendar view you prefer, day, work week, week, or month. The Calendar opens in that view.


  • To create a new contact, type contact or just "co" and enter the contact name, email address and type workphone: to add work number, location in brackets [Location], any URL, and notes in parenthesis, (Notes). Click OK.
    Note: If you want to open the Contacts detail form, click More Details. On this form you can specify which address book to add the contact name.


  • To send an email without opening the compose windows, type mail or just "m". Enter the subject in quotes, "Subject" type to: name@domain.com to add an email address and then type body: to add to the body of the email. Click OK.


  • Pro Account Only - To create a new task type task or just "t". Enter the subject in quotes, "Subject" type time: to set the date, type the location in brackets [Location] and the notes for the task in parenthesis (Notes)
