Frequently Asked Questions
What is Webmail?
Webmail is a new web-based Email platform (soon to be released by Westnet) which will be replacing the MyEmail product. It offers a whole different range of features and functionality which MyEmail doesn't have the ability to provide.
Essentially, Webmail allows you to check your Westnet email account from any computer that has access to the internet. This is especially useful if you are travelling, or if you regularly access your email from multiple locations.

It contains all of the features of the Lite version which allows you to:
- send and receive emails
- create folders for archiving emails
- import and export your current address book to and from your current mail client
- schedule your appointments using the calendar
- search emails or contacts using keywords

- Schedule your appointments using the calendar

Webmail Mobile

Webmail Mobile is a very basic form of Westnet's new Webmail platform and is aimed mainly at customers who are on the go and would like to access their email over a Phone or PDA*. It is formatted to display properly on the smaller screens of these devices but can also be viewed in an ordinary web browser on your computer, making it a great alternative for users who may have a very slow dial up connection.
Recommended for:
- Mobile users
- Dial-up users if the HTML version is too slow.
Supported Browsers:
- Any web browser should work with the mobile version.
* You will need to contact the supplier of your mobile connection to configure the device for internet access. Some devices may not be compatible with Webmail Mobile.

What are Zimlets?
Webmail's functionality can be improved further by integrating different types of services within the Webmail interface - these services are called Zimlets. A Zimlet is basically a small, third party program which can be opened by clicking on its name which is located on the left hand side of the Webmail screen, within the section titled Zimlets.
Only one Zimlet will be available at the time of release - the Video Live! Zimlet. This Zimlet allows you to copy and paste YouTube and Google Video links you may receive via email, into a field which then runs the video in a another window located in the bottom left corner of the Webmail interface. This means that if you receive a link to one of these videos you can copy and paste it into the Zimlet and the video will then play on your screen without you having to navigate away from Webmail to go to the YouTube of Google Video websites.
It is hoped that as more Zimlets become available, Westnet will be able to include much more functionality to further improve the usability of the Webmail platform.
