All Westnet email addresses have a quota of 50 MB. This includes addresses ending in @westnet.com.au as well as other email addresses hosted by Westnet.

Mailboxes larger than 50MB are known to cause difficulties for people using the Westnet MyEmail service, and to a lesser extent, customers using third party email applications such as Outlook Express.

Having a quota allows for more accurate planning of Westnet's email infrastructure and helps us to provide a reliable and sustainable email service. The easiest way to quickly reduce the size of your mailbox is to delete large messages and emails that you no longer need.

Managing Your Mailbox Size

If you are using a standalone email application, the easiest way to avoid exceeding your mailbox quota is to make sure your email program is deleting messages from our server once it has retrieved them. For information on how to do this, please consult the help file included with your email application.

If you are using the Westnet MyEmail service:

  • Save large messages and attachments to your computer and remove them from MyEmail
  • Regularly clear your Deleted Items
  • Delete old and unnecessary email

Deleting Messages Using MyEmail

To delete old messages that you no longer need:

  • Log into MyEmail with your email address and the associated password. You will then be presented with your Inbox (Fig. 1).
  • To delete an email, click on the tickbox next to the message and click the Delete Selected button.
    Please Note:
This will only move the selected message to your Deleted Items folder. To completely remove the email, click the Destroy Selected button instead.

Clearing Deleted Items

Your Deleted Items folder may also use a significant amount of mailbox space. To empty this folder:

  • Click the Folders link in the side menu. You will see a list of your created folders, including the Deleted Items folder.
  • To empty a folder, simply click the tickbox next to it and then click the Empty Selected button.
